My Journey in the Mental Health Field

I began my study of psychology at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA from which I earned my undergraduate degree in Psychology with a focus on Neuroscience in 2004.  I then continued my studies at the University of Scranton for which I earned my master's degree in the program called Community Counseling, in 2006.

Beginning my work in the mental health field, I started working at First Hospital in Kingston, PA, an acute inpatient facility.  I worked there for about a year as a Mental Health Technician assisting in managing the units.  I was promoted to the position of Psychometrist after about a year and in this capacity my task was to administer all of the psychological testing for the hospital and report the results and patient dynamics back to the psychologist for interpretation.

My next change came in 2007 when I began working outpatient community mental health performing 1.1 therapy with a very diverse and intense population.  Working there for a number of years, I decided it might be time for a different challenge and accepted a position working for the Pennsylvania Dept of Corrections delivering psychological services to the inmates.  This position was not the best fit for my interests, so I returned to first hospital in 2010 again, this time as a Senior Clinician at the inpatient facility.  I gained much experience to this point in my career, which helped me gain a position at King's College as a college counselor.  In a short time, I was promoted to Director of the Counseling Center, which is the position I currently hold managing the Counseling Center but also delivering individual and group counseling to a high caseload of students.

Along the way I have also had the opportunity in teaching adjunct courses both at King's College and Luzerne County Community College.  I have instructed courses in Developmental Psychology, General Psychology, and Human Adjustment, as well as a course for incoming first year students.
